Effective Leadership Requires Knowing Your Purpose


How many of you belong to a community-based or professional membership organization where you hold a leadership position? Do you find that at times, it seems as if you do more work for that organization than you do in your own home or for your own job or career? Do you ever think that "If I could get paid for all the things I do here, I would never have bills again?"

You're not alone; I've been there, too. I understand that many of you who serve in leadership positions for your community-based or professional membership organizations find yourselves feeling overwhelmed at times. And let's keep it real, there are even times when you feel annoyed by all of the work you must do to fulfill your leadership role(s).

Let's not forget the fact that most leadership roles are volunteer roles, meaning that you DO NOT get paid for the time, energy, talents, skills, or effort you expend while performing your leadership duties. "So what's the pay off?" you might ask.
