From Speaker to Trainer - What Are the Steps?

As of lately, I've received several inquiries from people looking to find out more information on how to take their speaking experience and parlay it into a training career or how to better enhance their current training experiences.

Since I have over five years experience of working as a corporate trainer and sponsoring a successful Toastmasters club, I thought it best to conduct a workshop to provide some insight on how to move from a speaker to a trainer in an effective and easy way.

If you are a training consultant, HR trainer, someone looking to pursue a professional speaking career, someone who desires to become a corporate trainer, or even someone serving as Vice President of Education for your Toastmasters club, then you must join me for "Transitioning From Speaker to Trainer: Strategic Ways to Make the Process Effective and Easy" on Saturday, December 19, 2009 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 8 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL for a workshop that will help you to increase your knowledge of designing and implementing a training program suitable and enjoyable for adult learners.

The cost is $45 for the early bird special (by November 27) and $65 in advance (by December 11).

Please reserve your space by December 11, 2009 because registration WILL NOT be handled at the door.

Another Victory Goes to Me and My Funny Bone

Today was an awesome day, for I proved once again that I could be funny by taking home the 2nd place trophy in the South Division Humorous Speech Contest for the District 30 Chicagoland Toastmasters.

This is quite a victory for someone, who, less than 12 months ago proclaimed, "But I'm not funny! Humor is not my strong suit."

Now, don't get me wrong, winning first place was truly the goal. Yet, the young man that won first place today, demonstrated a slight (and I do mean slight) edge over me by exhibiting just a tad bit more natural humor than I did.

It was such a joy to watch his speech because I learned some new things that I can do to make humor an even more natural part of me.

Now that I've proven to myself that I could be funny (which was always the goal), it's time to take my humor skills to the next level by using everything that I learned while competing in the humorous speech contests this year.

Two first place and one second place victories are not bad for someone as serious as me. I'm proud of myself! But, this is just the beginning.

I look forward to competing again next year so that I can win first place at the club and area levels again, but this time, at the Division and District levels, too. Hey, I need the symmetry. This odd number of trophies on my shelf is bugging me. It's only fair that I go back into the competing ring to bring home all four first place trophies, wouldn't you agree?

So, stay tuned to see how my new humor skills touch your funny bone. You just never know when they will hit you in a naturally humorous sort of way.

P.S. Thanks for your prayers, encouragement, coaching, and support.

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone to Ignite My Funny Bone

Wow, I never thought I would find myself making the attempt to be funny. Now, don't get me wrong, I can make people laugh - when I'm not trying. But tell me that I must be funny and it's a whole different ball game!

Well, that's exactly what's happening for me this month, I must ignite my funny bone so that I can deliver award-winning speeches for the District 30 Chicagoland Toastmasters Area and Division Humorous speech contests.

This is a new experience for me, participating in speech contests AND trying to be funny. Just thinking about it makes me laugh.

Now that I've gotten over the initial shock that I'll be representing my club on Saturday, October 3 at the Area Humorous speech contests, I'm actually excited by this new experience because it will take my speaking skills to the next level.

Not only that, my participation in these upcoming speech contests will help me to meet the goals of learning to be more purposefully humorous and of becoming a more involved member of Toastmasters International.

Wish me and my funny bone well.
